Training Clapham Common

Recently I watched some of my clients complete the Revolution Personal Training and felt a great sense of pride watching them succeed.

In this blog, I aim to advise these runners and anyone else, considering the challenge of a full .

To prepare well I have the following tips to motivate during your fitness courses:

1. Have an incentive to focus on for the race. For example, a specific charity or running in memory of a loved one. This focus will develop your mental toughness, a key component for success.

2. Find a well structured training programme. There are plenty available on the internet or ask your PT outdoor bootcamp Manager for advice.

3. When going through the fitness courses, think about the big day. A useful tool for runners is carb-gel. If you plan on using them during the race, start fuelling with them during training to accustomed your body to taking.

4. On your long run day, try to do group fitness classes and train with a friend. This may prevent boredom and maintain motivation.

5. Trainers: if you are going to get a new pair, break them in at least 4 weeks before the event.

6. Cross train. Developing strength in your lower legs will only aid your endurance.

7. Taper your fitness courses 3 weeks before to allow the body to recover; 75% of your maximum time and distance on the third week before; 50% the second week before and 25% the week before.

8. Carbo-Load 2 nights before. Carbo-loading the night before can leave you with a bloated stomach.

9. Take warm clothes and a blanket for the start. (Something you don’t mind discarding if you have to wait for 2 hours before the start).

10. Enjoy the race. Start slow and gradually increase pace. If you are wearing your own top, print your name on it so bystanders can shout your name.

Preparing for such a mammoth task is unenviable. I wish everyone taking up the challenge the best of luck. Any PT outdoor bootcamp instructor would be delighted to help with any concerns or questions.
